As the weather improves, more community members, students, and youth groups may be accessing the waterfront for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and other recreational activities.
Vessel operators, including recreational boaters, are reminded to be mindful of all users in the Lax Kw’alaams harbour area. Please reduce speed near small craft, watch your wake, and stay alert while on the water.
Boaters are encouraged to make a sail plan before heading out by letting someone know where they are going, how long they expect to be gone, when they expect to return, and how many people are on board.
Additional safety reminders include wearing a properly fitted lifejacket or PFD with a whistle attached, watching for logs and floating debris, and carrying required safety equipment such as paddles, flares, identification, marine certifications, and a fixed or handheld VHF radio when applicable.
Let’s keep the harbour safe for everyone.
