5th Anniversary Commemoration of the Tk̓emlúps
On May 25, 2026, communities across British Columbia will gather in remembrance, ceremony, and connection to honour the 5th Anniversary of the Tk̓emlúps.
A total of 21 Sacred Fires will be lit at 18 Indian Residential School sites and 3 Indian Hospital sites across the province, serving as spiritual doorways to honour the spirits of the missing children who never returned home and to connect Nations and ancestors.
The Sacred Fires will burn from sunrise to sunset. Traditional medicines such as tobacco, sage, sweetgrass, and cedar may be used to offer prayers to the ancestors.
Lax Kw’alaams Band will participate through the Miller Bay TB Indian Hospital Sacred Fire Gathering in Prince Rupert.
