Online Voting Opens Today for Lax Kw’alaams Constitutional Referendum, April 4, 2025

On March 10, 2025 notice was given to members that the Lax Kw’alaams First Nation had called a referendum to the proposed Da’ax Kw’alaams Man-Ayaawx Constitution of the Lax Kw’alaams First Nation (“Constitution”), in accordance with Lax Kw’alaams’ inherent right to self-determination. 

The Referendum will be held on April 9, 2025, and at least 60% of voters who vote in the referendum must approve to pass the Constitution. Voting will be held in person in Lax Kw’alaams, Prince Rupert, and online at https://www.onefeather.ca/nations/laxkwalaams with online voting opening on April 4, 2025 until voting closes April 9, 2025 at 8:00 PM. Voting registration also remains open until April 9, 2025 at 8:00 PM.

“I would like to encourage all of our Lax Kw’alaams members to get out and exercise their right to vote in this important and historic Referendum,” said Mayor Garry Reece.
