Emergency Services, Lands, Resources and Stewardship|

Lax Kw’alaams Lands and Emergency Services are updating residents and members that part of the Northwest Fire Centre is currently under a category 2 & 3 open fire prohibition – including a portion of Lax Kw’alaams’ traditional territory. A province wide campfire prohibition will also begin this Friday July 12 at noon.

The current prohibited fire zone for category 2 & 3 open fires intersects Highway 16 at approximately China Bar entrance.

As of 12pm (noon) July 5, 2023, the open fire prohibition includes:

  • Category 2 open fire
  • Category 3 open fire

Due to current and forecast conditions, a province wide Category 1 campfire prohibition will be put into effect. Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Friday, July 12, 2024.

The fire prohibition is intended to help prevent local wildfires, in the interest of public safety. These open fire prohibitions will remain in effect until the Order is rescinded.
