Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Science Branch will be conducting cetacean line transect surveys in Lax Kw’alaams Traditional Waters aboard the RV Titianaq.
From July 8 to 22, the research will focus on areas with high or increasing levels of shipping and local vessel traffic. The purpose of the study is to better understand how human activity affects marine mammal populations and to support future mitigation efforts.
DFO has been made aware that this is a key salmon harvest time period for the community and will endeavor to avoid active fishers.
