Dear Members,

The marine areas 4 and the lower area 3 sub areas will re-open for sockeye and gillnet Food, Social and Ceremonial (FSC) fishing today at 5pm. In-river food fishing past the Tyee Test fishery will remain closed for sockeye and gillnets until further technical information is available.

Lax Kw’alaams Fisheries staff will be coordinating with Metlakatla Aquatic Resources staff to gather fishing data to provide important information for a phased approach for opening the in-river areas for our First Nation neighbours.

We ask that you please cooperate with both teams and give accurate and timely catch information, including:

  • general location
  • total sockeye caught
  • total other salmon kept and released
  • number of sets
  • net size
  • seal encounters
  • amount of time fishing

All members must have their status cards as DFO Conservation and Protection will be out there to remove non-designated FSC fishers from the areas.

Please call Lax Kw’alaams Fisheries at 250-600-6693 with your catch information.
