From April 11 to April 17, 2026, Lax Kw’alaams harvesters may encounter Government of Canada officials in Lax Kw’alaams territory and waters.
Lax Kw’alaams members, please be advised that there will be a contingent of the Government of Canada and other individuals within Lax Kw’alaams territory and waters from April 11 to April 17, 2026, in and around the Dundas Island Group, Melville Island, Lucy Island, and the Kinihan Islands.
The Fisheries and Lands Departments are aware that our members may be practicing traditional harvesting within this area of our coastal territory. Please rest assured that Lax Kw’alaams staff have provided requirements to ensure respect for the people, land, waters, and resources while these visitors are in the area. A key priority is the respect for community harvesters.
The contingent has been advised not to disturb or interfere with community harvesters in any way. In return, they have provided written assurance that they will be respectful visitors – ensuring their footprint is minimal.
