April and May 2026 have been very busy for the Lax Kw’alaams Communications team. We’ve been capturing photos and video of community events, Elder events, and advocacy events – as Lax Kw’alaams calls for a pause on Bill 21: Kitselas Treaty Act.
Lax Kw’alaams Band and Nine Allied Tribes leadership have been working tirelessly to have Lax Kw’alaams heard on the proposed Bill 21: Kitselas Treaty Act, which affects 90% of Lax Kw’alaams territory. Find out more information on this ongoing issue starting on page 4, including a map of the area Kitselas is claiming treaty and harvest rights to, and photos of the Peaceful Demonstration and March, held on April 28, 2026 in Prince Rupert.
Lax Kw’alaams Business Development also played a big role in supporting the Peaceful Demonstration and March. Their office was also active with a Roe on Kelp distribution for the membership. LaxBDL is welcoming Alena Helin to their team too! Welcome Alena!
Baby Feast 2026 happened in Lax Kw’alaams – photos on page 11. Education is celebrating the hard work, dedication and achievements of our 2026 graduates on pages 16-17. Lax Kw’alaams Settlement Trust is having a by-election for 2 available Trustee positions on June 2, 2026. We’ve shared information on pages 22-23 from the Trust and Electoral Officer at One Feather.
Important dates for the Trust by-election include:

- Opens May 19, 2026, at 9am (PT)
- Closes June 2, 2026, at 8pm (PT)
