Lax Kw’alaams’ constitution is key to our nation building efforts as an Indigenous people. With a constitution we can better: determine our own identity and membership as a community; develop our own laws and manage our own territory; create our own government structure; and, establish rights of Lax Kw’alaams people.
A constitution is a supreme law of any society that sets out key roles and responsibilities of a government.
Lax Kw’alaams wants to hear from members and tribes about whether you want a constitution for Lax Kw’alaams,
and how our people wish to move away from the Indian Act and stand up our Adaawx and Ayaawx.
