TO ALL MEMBERS
LAX KW’ALAAMS INDIAN BAND COMMUNITY SETTLEMENT TRUST
GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS NOW OPEN

The Lax Kw’alaams Indian Band ratified a Settlement Agreement with Canada on December 12, 2002. In  the agreement, Canada agreed to fulfill its respective outstanding obligations to the Lax Kw’alaams  Indian Band relating to the loss of its unsurrendered interest in the southern portion of Tsimpsean  Indian Reserve No. 2.

The Lax Kw’alaams Indian Band Settlement Trust was created and the Trust Agreement set out the terms  on which the Trustees are to hold the Settlement Monies. The Settlement Monies and the other  property delivered to the Trustees are assets for the use and benefit of the present and future Members  of the Lax Kw’alaams Indian Band, as Beneficiaries, to be administered by the Trustees. The principal  amount of Settlement Monies will not be available for use by Members but is to be held in trust and  invested while revenues generated therefrom will be used for the benefit of present and future  Members.

The Lax Kw’alaams Band Settlement Trust is pleased to announce the application deadline has been extended for Lax Kw’alaams Band departments and organizations.

This application process will remain open until Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at 4:30 PM. Trustees will review and decide whether to approve applications. The allocation of funding amounts to successful applicants is expected to begin in December 2024.

Once applications are accepted and approved by the elected Trustees, a follow-up announcement will  be made; at that time, member applications will be available to the appropriate department leads for Band Benefits as per the approved application(s). The Band’s departments will put out an application process for monies they receive from the Trust for various programs.
