The Mayor and Council of the Lax Kw’alaams Band is pleased to announce a one-time gift in the amount of $500 per member to help start the New Year off in a good way.
Eligible applicants must be Lax Kw’alaams Band members registered as such on November 30, 2021. For minors under the age of 18 as of November 30, 2021, applications must be made by the parent or official guardian on their behalf.
Individuals over the age of 18 as of November 30, 2021, must make their own application, either individually or with a spouse. Further documentation may be required if there is a shared custody arrangement in place.
All applicants must complete and provide to Lax Kw’alaams Band, either:
- On the attached pdf “Gift Application Form” or;
- Complete and submit the “Online Application Form”. (Available online December 8th)
Ensure that only one method is used. Duplicate submissions will result in delays of processing your gift.

Please print clearly and fully complete to reduce delays in processing payments. Ensure your current and correct mailing address is included on the application as cheques will be mailed to most applicants.
Applications are available on-line at laxkwalaams.ca under the “News” section or may be picked up at either the Band Office in the community or Lax Kw’alaams Business Development office in Prince Rupert. All applications must be either delivered to the Band Office or Lax Kw’alaams Business Development during normal business hours or scanned and emailed to [email protected], or faxed to 250-625-3246. Final cut-off for applications is February 28, 2022.
Online Application Form (Available December 8, 2021)
The online application form, available on the Band’s website, must be completed in full, including all mandatory fields, and submitted online prior to the advertised deadline.
Direct Deposit Option
To help expedite timely payments, the Lax Kw’alaams Band will this year offer a direct deposit option for approximately the first 200 applications received. These applications must include an authorized “Direct Deposit Form” issued by your bank for account you wish the deposit to be made. Most financial institutions offer a pre-populated direct deposit form within their online banking sites. Alternatively, banks will provide these forms if you visit a branch and provide valid identification.
For security reasons, a scanned version of your “Direct Deposit Form” will need to be emailed separately from your application form to [email protected]. A photocopy or faxed copy will be required for any applications dropped off or faxed to the Band Office. Please ensure that your address is shown on the Direct Deposit Form for cross-referencing purposes.
Applications will be processed as they are received. It is critical that the information is complete and clearly legible. Due to the impending Christmas closure of the office (December 20th – January 4th), it is anticipated that most applications will not be processed until sometime in January 2022.
A receipt email will automatically be sent to your submission email address once it is received by the Band. This does not include faxed applications or those dropped off directly at the Band Office or the Lax Kw’alaams Business Development office.
For recipients that have a debt owing to the Band, a deduction of 10% will be made from the total gift allowance and applied to debt.
Please do not call the office to enquire on the status of your application as this will just slow down the processing.
Reminder: Submit application by only one method, as duplication of receipt creates delays in processing.
