Council has voted unanimously to move the Lax Kw’alaams historical documents currently stored in the old community tribal office to a secure office space in Prince Rupert where they will be scanned, copied and digitized.

The material is currently in jeopardy of deterioration from mold and other elements. The architectural material will be moved under strict supervision.

The building has been infiltrated with pests and rodents, the roof is leaking, the floor has been known to flood and the building has been broken into on several occasions. The building is slated to be demolished.

The material will be preserved for future generations.

It is the council’s intension, that once a secure location is identified or built in the community, all the documents will be returned.
