Reporting to: Director of Recreation
The Lax Kw’alaams Band and Recreation Department have an immediate opening for a casual Pool Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the Leisure Centre swimming pools and equipment when on duty. Additionally, ensure the use of effective janitorial techniques and practice in accordance with required health and safety standards and applicable government guidelines and acts.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Monitor, adjust and record water chemistry.
- Monitor, clean, and repair mechanical components.
- Maintain chemical feed systems and complete basic service and repair of pumps, motors, and related mechanical equipment.
- Respond effectively to alarms and emergencies and take the necessary measures to ensure public and staff safety.
- Record pool service information in logbooks and perform building janitorial and security functions.
- Assist with operating, repairing and maintaining the swimming pool treatment, filtration, mechanical and heating systems and their components for various pool systems within established standards or as requested and required.
- Perform a variety of janitorial and maintenance tasks to maintain and repair pool and building equipment such as door hardware, floor systems maintenance, pool ladders, sauna, steam room, waterslide, exercise equipment, etc.
- Operate and maintain building structure, operating systems and contents to ensure the safety of the staff and members of the public.
- Monitor and provide basic service to all air handling units (HVAC systems), fans, dampers, filters, heat pumps, refrigeration units, boilers, pneumatic controls, and energy control systems; program and monitor computerized energy management system and calibrate remote sensors, as appropriate.
- Perform other tasks within the scope of the position.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
- Training may be available for the right candidate with some experience and qualifications.
- Completion of Level 1 Pool Operator Certificate.
- High school graduation or GED Equivalency.
- Building Service Work (BSW) Certificate.
- Current WHMIS Certificate or willing to obtain.
- Current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Current Occupational First Aid (OFA) Certificate or willing to obtain
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
- The successful candidate will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment.
Also willing to achieve or already have:
- Pool Operator level 2
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard certification
- WorkSafe Emergency First Aid (OFA 1) w/CPR & AED
- Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor certification
- WHMIS
Also willing to achieve or already have:
- Wages will be $25.59 per hour.
