First Responder (Term Full-Time)
Business Unit: Emergency Services Department
Location: Lax Kw’alaams, British Columbia
Reporting to: Emergency Services Manager
The Lax Kw’alaams Emergency Services Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Term Full-Time First Responder. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for providing immediate assistance and care during emergencies, including accidents, natural disasters, and other urgent situations. The role requires quick decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Responsibilities:
General
- ▪ Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents
- ▪ Assess the situation quickly and determine appropriate response actions
- ▪ Secure the scene to ensure the safety of victims, bystanders, and other responders
- ▪ Document incidents accurately and maintain detailed reports
- ▪ Inspect and maintain emergency response vehicles, equipment, and supplies during each shift
- ▪ Participate in training exercises and continuing education to maintain readiness
- ▪ Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and external agencies
- ▪ Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- ▪ Note: Perform all other duties within the scope of the position and as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- ▪ Occupational First Aid 2 (OFA 2) / Basic First Aid Level 2 required
- ▪ CPR and First Aid certification required
- ▪ Additional emergency response training and certifications (Asset)
Experience
- ▪ Previous experience in emergency response, or related fields (Asset)

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Physical Demand
- ▪ Physical fitness and stamina to respond to emergency situations
- ▪ Ability to work both outdoors and indoors, depending on the nature of the emergency
Mental Demands
- ▪ You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time
- ▪ May have to respond to an emergency involving individuals known to you

Classification/Pay Scale
- ▪ $21.95
- ▪ As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Local 2365 Collective Agreement
