Location: Lax Kw’alaams, BC
The Lax Kw’alaams Band has an opening for a full-time Finance Manager. This position is a Senior Administration and Management team member and is responsible for Financial Controllership and Management. Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Accounting Management
Manage the accounting functions of the Band and ensure the integrity of financial information and reporting.
- Review General Ledger entries, Bank Reconciliations and other accounting reconciliations.
- Supervise the accounting team and ensure that deadlines are met for timely and accurate Financial Reporting.
- Ensure that cash from sales is seamlessly recorded in the General Ledger system.
- Ensure that controls are implemented to detect and prevent errors and fraud.
- Provide monthly internal financial statements to the CFO and Senior Management.
Contract Management
In consultation with the CFO and Program Leads, oversee the administration of funding contracts.
- Ensures contractual obligations are met and legal requirements are adhered to.
- Assist in applying for funding.
- Process cash flows, claim forms and other requirements from funders.
Operational Efficiencies
Work with the CFO, and Program Directors/Department Managers to develop annual budgets.
- Lead the annual budget preparation process.
- Monitor budget variances and, in consultation with the Department heads, make recommendations for resolutions.
Perform other duties within the scope of the position and as assigned.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
- CPA and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
- Experience working in Public Sector Accounting.
- Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience and at least two years of management /supervisory experience.
- Great written and verbal communication skills.
- Great technical skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and relevant administrative software.
- A great attitude, a strong work ethic and a strong commitment to confidentiality.
- Reliable vehicle and a driver’s license.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a healthy lifestyle.
- The successful candidate will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check.
- Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability. Able to deal with people’s sensitivity tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
