Reporting to: Brighter Futures Coordinator
The Lax Kw’alaams Band has openings for an On-Call Brighter Futures Youth Worker. The successful candidate will deliver services in a Culturally Safe setting and respectful manner that complies with current Brighter Futures policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Be active and engage in all Program activities during shift including community events or collaborated programs with other Community departments.
- To spend at least 75% of your time to build purposeful relationships with the Youth who access Brighter Futures Programming
- Be a positive role model for all youth in the community.
- To empower Youth through a process of reflective practice to find their own direction in life.
- To encourage Youth to make a difference in Lax Kw’alaams
- Act as an informal point of contact for Youth, to be a friendly welcoming face within the community and someone the Youth can trust to talk to.
- Maintain a professional relationship with the Youth, acting as their advocate if needed whilst ensuring appropriate confidentiality and the maintenance of professional boundaries at all times.
- Assist the Lead Youth Worker in running and engaging activities either as a part of a group or one to one.
- Facilitate programs and workshops with youth ages 7 – 29.
- Work as part of a team and as an individual to provide a safe environment. Report any Health and Safety or safeguarding concerns to the Brighter Futures Coordinator
- Able to facilitate conflict resolutions between youth when needed.
- Must be responsible and ethical, shows compassion and empathy.
- Facilitate or willing to learn to facilitate Cultural Harvesting, Traditional Arts & Mental Health programs.
- Maintain accurate logs and compile statistical records to support program needs and inform ongoing program development and evaluation
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with Youth, professionals and agencies showing consideration and respect for their views, ensuring that all communication, including on issues that may be emotionally distressing, is dealt with in an appropriate manner and conveyed in ways acceptable to the recipient.
- Attend team meetings.
- Work evenings & weekends.
- Clean up materials and space used at the end of each program.
- Travel up to 2 weeks with youth – ie. Canoe Journey, Seaweed camp, Conferences etc
- Lift up to 50lb
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.
Education, Experience and Knowledge: - Must have completed minimum grade 12.
- First Aid and CPR preferred or willing to take.
- Knowledge base in, Food safe & Food skills for families and Community Health Education and Prevention.
- Good standing in the community with knowledge of community members
- Excellent Computer Office Skills.
- Good organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, conflict resolution, time management, interpersonal skills, confidentiality, professional conduct, sound judgment, respect, diplomacy, empathy, sympathy and integrity.
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a personal addiction-free lifestyle.
- The successful candidate will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment.
- Must remain in full compliance with all public health orders and Band policies throughout their employment.
Compensation & Benefits - Wages will be $ 23.56
- This is a Bargaining Unit position and is open to all genders
