The Lax Kw’alaams Band has an immediate opening for a full-time and permanent Brighter Future Worker. The successful candidate will deliver services in an appropriate, caring and respectful manner that is compliant with current Brighter Futures policies and procedures within the allotted budget
Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Manage implement and coordinate the Brighter Futures Community Programs;
- Be active in child community mental health and child development and injury prevention, including training, planning consultation and information exchange;
- Knowledgeable in creating programs for parenting skills and healthy babies using culturally appropriate services;
- Setting up workshops in accordance with the community health priorities;
- Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering the program in the community, working effectively and cooperatively with others;
- Interact with family and child services committees and community organizations, school, family services and health clinics;
- Promote health and wellness through learning-related activities that strive to increase awareness, change attitudes, build knowledge and enhance skills;
- Review Brighter Futures 1-2 year plans regularly to stay on task with the Health Director;
- Attend and participate in team meetings, conduct research and compile the information required to set up workshops for families and children;
- Maintain confidentiality with families and staff;
- Must be responsible and ethical, shows compassion and empathy;
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
- Must have completed minimum grade 12;
- First Aide and CPR preferred or willing to take;
- Experience in a First Nations community;
- Knowledge base in, Food skills for families and Community Health Education and Prevention;
- Good standing in the community with knowledge of community members
- Excellent Computer Office Skills;
- A valid driver’s license;
- Good organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, conflict resolution, time management, interpersonal skills; confidentiality, professional conduct, sound judgement, respectful, diplomacy, empathy, sympathy and integrity;
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a personal addiction-free lifestyle;
- The successful candidate will be asked to provide a current Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Wages will be $20.69 hourly (Brighter Future Worker 2).
- This is a Bargaining Unit position and is open to male and female applicants.
