Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Manage the Lax Kw’alaams Band’s executive and administrative communications, marketing and media activities, including the development of approved communications plans and programs
  • Translate the strategic priorities of the Lax Kw’alaams Band council and administration into external communications strategies, programs and initiatives
  • Continually review and develop the Lax Kw’alaams Band’s communications strategic priorities with stakeholders as needed, ensuring deliverables are within the scope of external communications
  • Develop external communication policies, for review by Lax Kw’alaams elected leadership
  • Research and develop content to support presentations, advertisements, website and digital content, brochures, and other Band communication marketing assets
  • Track and support Band involvement in presentations, meetings and community, annual and special events, especially with respect to coordination of presentation material
  • Manage the annual advertising calendar and advertising material development, placement and advertisement tracking/reporting (print, radio, social, TV as needed)
  • Support work with external suppliers to ensure communication products are produced and delivered according to set budgets and timelines
  • Monitor and report on media coverage of the Band
  • Track and maintain reporting on the effectiveness of communications activities quarterly or bi-annually
  • Review, manage and update communications assets, including rebranding campaigns as needed
  • Provide specialized expertise and guidance concerning community engagement to department heads, as requested
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify priorities – including council, staff, community members, federal, provincial and municipal governments and other NGO’s
  • Supervise communications staff and conduct employee performance reviews
  • Work with stakeholders and communications staff to write and produce an annual report to the membership, along with other communications materials
  • Serve as the media contact for formal external communications, including press releases
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets
  • Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position, as assigned by the CAO

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • 5 years of related work experience
  • An undergraduate degree in Communications or a related field is an asset, or a combination of education and work experience may be considered for an otherwise viable candidate
  • Proven experience in supporting successful communications, media relations, events and corporate reputation initiatives
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including editing
  • Solid time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to juggle multiple and sometimes competing priorities simultaneously. Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong proficiency in using a suite of applications; including Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud products
  • Knowledge of social media account and platform management and digital marketing tools
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Able to deal with people sensitivity, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times

The successful candidate will be responsible for answering questions about the facility and its programs and services, registering participants for programs and services, handling cash, working in other areas of the facility (e.g., Weight Room, Gym, Swimmers Cafe or assisting in Brighter Futures) and maintaining a clean lobby and work area. During certain times of the day, you may be designated as the immediate backup for the Lifeguard on duty, which means that additional First Aid and Lifesaving training is required. Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Report any incidents, maintenance problems or safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests, staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain a professional & courteous relationship with guests, staff and volunteers.
  • Follow all checklists, procedures and schedule of tasks as per the Director of Recreation or Designate.

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Grade 12 Education- preferred
  • Cash Handling Experience – able to make cash changes and complete accurate cash reports.
  • 1-year previous experience working in a Customer Service Environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests, staff and volunteers.
  • General knowledge of office skills, including computer skills, such as typing, word processing, and effectively using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Email). Ability to keep accurate daily logs.
  • Ability to resolve conflict effectively with both staff and guests.
  • Ability to complete maintenance and cleaning duties for the Front Desk work area, the Lobby, or wherever needed.
  • Be on time for all assigned shifts or shifts that you agreed to cover for another staff. Available for last-minute calls.

Home and Community Care Nurse

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive community health services (Home Nursing Care and Prevention) through home visits and other health promotion workshops;
  • Work with the Home & Community Care clientele
  • Participate as a team member with the FNHA
  • Keeps written records and statistics of program
  • Knowledge of competency guidelines, standards, scope and code of ethics
  • Skilled nursing services in accordance with the orders from the nurse practitioner and doctor under the plan of care. Staying within guidelines, in scope of practice.
  • Assist and support the clinic nurses with home visits as needed. Enabling immunocompromised clients to remain at home and receive knowledgeable safe care, of all ages.
  • Collaborating with family MD’s and NP’s for continuity of care.
  • Monitoring and assessing vital signs and blood sugar levels.
  • Assisting elders and community members medically as needed.
  • Preparation and or administration of medications including pre-pour medications and pre-loaded syringes. Monitor and care of catheters and ostomies.
  • Medication monitoring, support for clients with health conditions at home
  • Wound assessment and dressing changes in home, work in collaboration with the wound care team in Prince Rupert and clinic nurses
  • Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, working effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Encourage and educate clients and families advocating on the behalf of the clients
  • Attend and participating in team meetings
  • Must be responsible and ethical, shows compassion and empathy.
  • Shows good time management and organization
  • Maintains client and staff confidentiality
  • Prepared to facilitate in community engagement workshops for Men/Women/Children and Families

Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Empty wastebaskets, dust shelves, window sills, office desks and all other surfaces; wash and wipe down marks on walls.
  • Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Monitor and ensure that the building premises are locked, secure and safe during unoccupied hours.
  • Dust and polish tables, wash, dry and stack coffee cups left in the kitchen. Sanitize surfaces in the kitchen areas. 
  • Wipe the exterior of the fridges; make sure coffee pot(s) are off and cleaned; wipe down counters.
  • Clean and disinfect washroom and fixtures, including stocking adequate soap, towels and other supplies
  • Keep the exterior of the building free of garbage, keep stairs and decks free of debris.
  • Keep all entrances free of snow and other debris and immediately report hazards to the supervisor
  • Act promptly to treat slippery conditions with compounds to eliminate or minimize hazardous conditions when they exist
  • Seasonal cleaning (fall and spring) includes stripping and waxing the floors, cleaning the fridges and stoves, emptying and wiping down cupboards and other tasks identified by the Supervisor or a designate. Clean the windows inside and outside
  • Ensure that custodial supplies' inventory is adequate and up to date; provide ordering requirements to the Supervisor
  • Perform other tasks within the scope of the position.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a similar role; previous experience with small equipment repair is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the safe application of chemicals and products used in cleaning and sanitizing; WHMIS Certificate.

  1. Information Management and IT

Ensure that the Band’s information technology systems (IT) and infrastructure operate effectively.
  • The IT infrastructure (phone system, hardware, software) is functioning well, and meeting end-user needs

  • The IT resources are documented (equipment capacity and age, assignments etc.)
  • Network back up and clean up mechanisms are in place and completed according to schedule.
  • IT updates are planned and executed within budget and time limitation.

  1. Accounting Management
    Manage the accounting functions of the Band and ensures the integrity of financial information and reporting.
    • Supervise the accounting team and ensure that deadlines are met for timely and accurate Financial Reporting.
    • Ensure that controls are implemented to detect and prevent errors and fraud.
    • Ensure that all corporate data including accounting information is accurately maintained, accessible and current.
    • Monthly internal financial statements are provided to the CFO, CAO, Management and Council.
    • Work with the CFO, and Program directors/Department heads to develop annual budgets.
    • Monitor budget variances and, in consultation with the Department heads, makes recommendations for resolutions.
  2. Contract Management
    In consultation with the CFO and Program Leads, oversee the administration of funding contracts.

    • Assist in applying for funding.
    • Processes cash flows, claim forms and other requirements from funders.
  3. Asset Management
    Work with the CFO and the Infrastructure and Housing Directors and Asset Management Coordinator to ensure that all assets are recorded and properly maintained.

    • Oversee insurance renewals, additions, claims and enquiries.
    • Ensure all assets are adequately insured.

  • Carry out lifeguarding/instructional duties by monitoring safety practices, Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, National Lifeguard Service and Public Health Act Standards to ensure requirements are maintained.
  • Lead water exercise classes (aquafit & aqua bike) provide instruction and evaluation for program/class participants.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

  • Knowledge of Lax Kw’alaams community, traditions, teachings, culture, protocols, and practices.
  • Proficient use of information technologies (computers, mobile devices, etc.) including Microsoft Office Suite, presentation development tools, online education programs, and social media channels. Office Environment
  • Most services are provided immediately.
  • To be aware of sensitivity, confidentiality and urgency of requests while balancing other work commitments.
  • Travel may be required
  • Non-standard hours of work – May be required to accommodate the community needs and that may consist of evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License and Driver’s Abstract
  • Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver’s License

Compensation & Benefits

  • $ 64, 000 yearly
  • This is a Bargaining Unit position and is open to all genders.
