Dear Community Members,
Do you know what to do in the event of a tsunami in Lax Kw’alaams?

The Lax Kw’alaams Band invites you to “Hike to High Ground,” an interactive event designed to help residents practice tsunami preparedness.

Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
Time: Anytime between 10:00AM and Noon
Location: Please start at the Band Office and follow the route to the Elder’s Lodge

Participants will begin the Hike to High Ground via Nelson or Church Street. The route will be clearly marked for your convenience. Lax Kw’alaams Fire Rescue personnel will be at the Elder’s Lodge to answer questions and provide information on emergency preparedness from 10am-12pm.
After completing the route, please join us at the Elder’s Lodge for light snacks and
refreshments.
**A door prize is provided by PreparedBC and will be drawn at noon.
**Giveaways such as Lax Kw’alaams High Ground Hike T-shirts, emergency flashlight and
whistle keychains will be available while supplies last.
