Tsimshian Art & Integration | Dynamic Mural
The Lax Kw’alaams Band Council is developing a new Daycare Centre Building in Lax Kw’alaams. Construction is currently underway with an anticipated completion date in March 2025.
Lax Kw’alaams Band, through its design team, is seeking expressions of interest from
artists who may want to be included in the building’s cultural representation of Tsimshian
Art.
Work Media: Two-dimensional digital artwork. Artists should consider the transferability
of designs and the ability to be vectorized for the purpose of a Computer Numerical
Control (CNC) Router Machine. The two-dimensional works will be used on interior
surfaces.
Work Size: Submitted works will be considered for the following:
1. (11) Interior Wood Sliding Art Panels: to be located in the Gathering & Cultural
Area of the building.
2. Panel Size: 2070mm (W) x 3000mm (H).
Entry Requirements: Artists wishing to express interest in the project need to:
1. Provide a one-page cover letter including a brief biography introducing yourself
and your work; and,
2. Provide a portfolio of digital images of works for consideration (min. of 1, max. of 10). Images should be presented in JPEG format with image size set to 300 dpi resolution and can be provided via file share service (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) and,
3. Indicate willingness to provide existing works and/or create new works within
specifications provided by the Design Team.
Evaluation of Entries: While all expressions of interest will be considered, preference will be given to Tsimshian artists.
Entries Due: August 26, 2024
Selection Process: A committee appointed by LKB and the Architect will review the entries to award the artist to be considered as described above.
Pricing: The intention of this Expression of Interest is to provide the design team with concepts and styles that will be incorporated in the building design. As such, artists need not include pricing in their submissions.
If, during the evaluation process, the committee selects specific works from a submission, the artist will be asked to provide pricing based on how that work will be used in the building design. Select artists may be commissioned for original, site-specific pieces at a price agreed upon with the LKB Project Team.
Notification to Artist: The successful artist will be notified of their selection no later than September 06, 2024. All other artists will be retained on a database for possible future consideration.
