Environmental and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) will be conducting shoreline surveys in the Prince Rupert area June 24-30, 2025 for marine-spill emergency preparedness

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Emergencies, Science and Technology Section (ESTS) will be conducting shoreline surveys in the Prince Rupert area June 24-30, 2025 during one of the lowest tide of the year. ESTS will be working with Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) and Canadian Coast Guard to access shorelines of importance in the area.

The shoreline surveys are to document current conditions for marine-spill emergency preparedness. Surveys will include pre-Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (pre-SCAT) to gather observational data about vulnerable shorelines, recording marine species observations, beach profile measurements, and collection of different intertidal zone surface sediment samples (250 ml).

The information is gathered to support all response organizations involved in emergency spill incidents and is freely accessible to Nations should they have interest in the data collected.
