The Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement is hosting free, one-on-one Claimant Support Sessions in Lax Kw’alaams.
Dates: October 15 and 16, 2026
Location: Lax Kw’alaams Recreation Centre Elders Lodge, 1600 Church Street
Claims Helpers trained in trauma-informed and culturally grounded practices are available to explain eligibility, answer questions about the Claims Process, and help complete Claims. One-on-one support is offered in English.
Wellness and cultural supports are also available on-site. Members of surrounding communities are welcome.

Join us for a moment of silence, candle lighting, dinner and cultural sharing as we honour our Survivors. More than 300 candles will be lit, and names will be read aloud.
Drop-in supports will be available throughout the day, including a registered counsellor, cedar brushing and eagle fan brushing with IRSSS staff, and massage with Lavita.
Video recording will not be permitted during the reading of names. Photos may be taken throughout the day.

NIFCS invites members of the Haisla Nation, Gitga’at First Nation, Lax Kw’alaams Band, and Metlakatla First Nation who live in the Prince Rupert area to participate in an upcoming engagement event focused on the development of inherent jurisdiction over child and family services.
This event provides an opportunity for community members to share their voices, values, traditions, and priorities to help shape a child and family services system that reflects the needs of their Nations, families, and communities. Community input is essential to ensuring that Nations’ laws, customs, and traditions help guide decisions about the well-being of their children and families.
📅 October 23–25, 2026
📍 The Crest Hotel, Prince Rupert, BC
Schedule:
- Friday, October 23: Dinner, 5–7 PM.
- Saturday, October 24: Engagement session, 9 AM–4 PM
- Sunday, October 25: Engagement session, 9AM–1 PM
Participants will receive a $50 gift card, meals, and an opportunity to win raffle prizes. Child-minding subsidies are also available.
Eligibility: This event is exclusively for members of the four participating Nations who live in the Prince Rupert area.
