As warm weather comes to the region, residents are asked to keep in mind that bears and other wildlife are becoming more active in the area. Please use caution while walking and always stay alert. Make noise while walking in trails to avoid startling a nearby bear.
Please be mindful of children and pets outdoors.
Keep children safe by supervising outdoor time. Supervise dogs and keep them on leash when in the community.
Avoid conflicts with bears near your home by:
- Keeping garbage secure at all times, closed tightly to reduce smells
- Feed pets indoors. If pets must be fed outside, do not overfeed
- Keeping barbeques clean by burning off bits of food at high heat
- Clean fish at sea whenever possible to avoid attracting bears to your residence
