As bear activity increases in Northwest BC regions take simple precautions to help keep people and wildlife safe. It’s important to remember to be Bear Aware when hiking, fishing and back country camping. Please be especially mindful of children and small pets.

When Hiking or Camping:

  • Watch for signs that bears have been in the area, such as scat, tracks, new claw marks on trees and turned-over logs
  • Carry bear spray, keep it easily accessible and know how to use it
  • Make loud noises near dense vegetation, berry patches and streams to avoid surprising a bear

When at Home:

  • Keep your smoke houses clean and safely dispose of fish water
  • Feed pets indoor. If feeding outdoors, do not leave excess food.
  • Store garbage securely and reduce odor by keeping lids closed
