In the April Newsletter, we have basketball score updates and photos from the 50th Annual Junior All-Native Tournament in Langley, BC on pages 4 and 5. Lax Kw’alaams had 3 youth teams participate: the U13 Strikettes, U13 Jr. Strike Force, and U17 Strike Force.

Lax Kw’alaams Wap Suwilaawksa Grade 11 and 12 students took part in an education tour across BC from March 27 to April 5. Check out the photos from their first tour stop at Coast Mountain College in Terrace.

Lax Kw’alaams Lands, Resources and Stewardship has updates about the Lax Kw’alaams Guardian program (with photos!) on pages 10-13.

Lax Kw’alaams Fisheries has a thorough update titled the Management of the Coast: Our 2026 Vision for Marine Sovereignty on pages 16-18.

Lax Kw’alaams Settlement Trust is having a by-election for 2 available Trustee positions on June 2, 2026. We’ve shared information on pages 22-23 from the Electoral Officer at One Feather.

Important dates for the Trust by-election include:

  • Nomination period: April 14-21 (closes at 5:00pm PT)
  • Deadline to request mail in ballot: May 23, 2026
  • Electronic Voting:
    • Opens May 19, 2026, at 9am (PT)
    • Closes June 2, 2026, at 8pm (PT)
  • Election Day: June 2, 2026, from 9am-8pm
