The Operator Training Program is AltaGas’ investment in building a local workforce certified as 4th Class Power Engineers and qualified and ready for roles as Tech 4 Gas Operators. AltaGas needs experienced operators and strong leaders to help commission the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) terminal, learn the systems inside and out, and safely operate REEF as it shifts from construction into service in early 2027.

Operator Training Program Overview

  • Duration: 10 months (full-time); participants are paid
  • Delivery: In partnership with Coast Mountain College and College of New Caledonia (Prince George), the program combines classroom instruction with hands-on lab and field experience
  • Credential: Recognized Fourth Class Power Engineer certification upon successful completion
  • Location: Coast Mountain College Prince Rupert Campus;  3-4 weeks of practical experience in Prince George (one-week blocks)
  • Start Date: April 1, 2026

Entrance requirements     
Required a minimum “C” grade in the following courses:

  • English Language Arts 11 or ENGL 045 or equivalent
  • Foundations of Math 11 or Math 044 or equivalent 
  • Physics 11 or PHYS 045 or equivalent A minimum “C-” grade

If you think you would do well in the program, but do not have all the above requirements, please do apply for this program.

The application deadline is January 15th, 2026 and we encourage you to apply early. Coast Mountain College is handling the application and evaluation process on behalf of AltaGas. Successful candidates will be contacted for an interview in early February.
