The solidarity rally scheduled for Saturday, October 24 has been postponed because of other cultural gatherings happening in the region at the same time. The rally was going to bring together hereditary chiefs, prominent leaders and community members from the entire Skeena corridor in opposition to Pacific Northwest LNG and its work on Flora Bank and Lelu Island.

“We are committed to hosting this event at a later date and to ensuring our members get the opportunity to attend a solidarity rally,” says Mayor Garry Reece. “We want to be inclusive and ensure full participation. Our members were very excited about this historic event and we understand its importance, so we will be hosting it at a later date that will allow for greater participation.”

Hereditary chiefs from all the nations along the corridor, including the Gitanyow, Gitxsan, Wet’suwet’en, were expected to attend the event on Saturday, October 24 at the North Coast Meeting & Convention Centre.

Lax Kw’alaams remains committed to sharing the new information and developments that were to be relayed at Saturday’s event in the coming days. We will be keeping our members up to date and informed on new information regarding Lelu Island and protecting our sea resources on both our website and Facebook. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
